How do you choose your crystals?

I've been reading about crystals and I'm thinking of getting one. Do you choose crystals based on their appearance, or the meanings people associate with them? Thanks everyone!

I’d say both! I think many people pick crystals for their beauty, but traditions also link stones to meanings. Like amethyst for calm or rose quartz for love. It’s fun when the look and the meaning line up.

I agree with @Jane88. Usually it gets my attention when I see them then I look up their meanings and I go: Ah, that makes sense!
