Already searched the forum and most replies lean toward shop recommendations, which is helpful but I'm trying to learn how to ID Carnelian myself.
My sister and I went to a gem fair in Eugene last weekend and saw a chunk labeled "natural Carnelian" from a booth that had mostly Brazilian pieces. It's got a deep orange-red color but the edges look almost too perfect. I read that a lot of Carnelian now is just dyed agate, especially coming from India or China.
Is there a way to tell if it's been heat-treated or dyed?
